Mtwara LNG was born from a bold regional vision: to unlock the economic power of East and Southern Africa through sovereign-led, clean energy infrastructure. What began as a concept to monetize stranded gas reserves from Mozambique and Tanzania has evolved into a full-scale 3.0 MTPA LNG terminal and virtual pipeline platform—powering cross-border trade, local industries, and energy access for millions.

The initiative is driven by a pioneering consortium comprising Viability Gap Plc (Kenya), N-Gas Ltd (Tanzania), and GEFCO (Norway)—later joined by Afric Gas Plc, a purpose-built vehicle for regional LNG and CNG distribution. Together, we blend technical capability, project finance, and deep relationships across public and private sectors.

Mtwara LNG Ltd was etablished after Conditional approval of Government of Tanzania and TPDC, with a mission to deliver gas virtualy across regions underserved by pipelines. By using a modular “virtual pipeline” approach, the company brings LNG and CNG to Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, DRC, Rwanda, Burundi, and Uganda—lowering energy costs, replacing diesel, and supporting industrial growth.

Through this joint venture, Mtwara LNG is building a new energy backbone for the region—scalable, bankable, and aligned with Africa’s goals for cleaner growth and energy independence. The project addresses long-standing infrastructure gaps while opening new markets for Tanzanian and Mozambican gas. With over 8.2 TCF of confirmed Tanzanian reserves and access to Area 1 and Area 4 in Mozambique, we are positioned to serve both global offtakers and regional industries for decades to come.

This is more than a terminal. It’s a movement to deliver cleaner, cheaper, and more inclusive energy—one truck, one pipeline, one city at a time.
